The Boiler Upgrade Scheme is a UK government grant designed to make the switch to low-carbon heating more affordable. It provides up to £7,500 towards the upfront cost of installing a renewable heating system – such as an air source heat pump, ground source heat pump, or, in certain circumstances, a biomass boiler – helping homeowners replace older, higher-emission heating with a greener alternative.
The scheme is designed to speed up the UK’s shift to low-carbon heating, reduce reliance on gas and oil boilers, and help households cut carbon emissions while lowering long-term energy costs.

To get £7,500 off the cost of upgrading your heating system, you’ll need to meet a number of eligibility criteria.

The Boiler Upgrade Scheme (BUS) is a UK government grant that provides up to £7,500 towards the cost of installing an air source heat pump, helping homeowners replace gas, oil or LPG boilers with low-carbon heating.
Yes. The Boiler Upgrade Scheme is specifically designed to help homeowners replace gas boilers with air source heat pumps, reducing carbon emissions and improving long-term energy efficiency.
A typical air source heat pump installation takes 2–5 days, depending on the property and existing heating system. LivWarm manages everything from assessment to commissioning.
You don’t need to apply yourself. LivWarm handles the BUS application on your behalf, ensuring the grant is correctly applied to your air source heat pump installation.
Most properties must meet minimum insulation standards to qualify for the BUS scheme. LivWarm assesses your home and can advise on insulation upgrades to ensure your air source heat pump performs efficiently.
Underfloor heating is not required. Many homes can use existing radiators - though larger or modern low-temperature radiators may improve efficiency and comfort. We'll assess your setup during the home survey.
Yes. Alongside the BUS grant, LivWarm offers competitive finance options from £1,000 to £50,000, allowing you to spread the remaining cost of your air source heat pump installation.
